This is our Sustainable Project here at April. We are exploring how we can work more sustainable with our Farmers. To make it simple and transparent we started with one Farmer, Alejo Castro from the farm Volcán Azul in Costa Rica.
We have been working with his coffee since the very start here at April. We asked Alejo how we can create more value for him as a Farmer and he said that we need to purchase a wider range of his coffee, so we did, we bought one lot of 100 bags of washed process Catuai & Caturra in addition to the micro- and nano lots we already roast from him at April.
We also want to shine a light on the fact that a lot of Coffee Roasteries are leveraging their farmers to support their growth, asking them for lower prices. We don't do that. We asked Alejo how much he wanted and that is what we are paying, €6/kg that goes directly to him, on top of that we have logistic and importing costs.
We believe everyone should know everything about the coffee beans they are working with, in their shops or brewing at home.
Together with Alejo using our Sustainable Profile Project as a base, we are researching new and more Sustainable Varietals that will improve his yields, quality and minimize risk for plant diseases.
The aim of this project is to in the future involve more of the farmers we work with here at April. The farmers are the most exposed and lowest paid in the value chain of Specialty Coffee and we are here to change that.

Roasted in one way, 12kg batches using a Loring 15kg Falcon Roast Machine.
Available to order for Coffee Shops, Restaurants and Hotels. Minimum order is 10kg (you order in steps of 10, 20... 30... 40...)
Medium Roasted to fit the brewing method of your choice
