Training Log by Simon Gautherin - What keeps you from doing the thing that really matters to you?
The Slow Method As I started my practice for the 2020 Brewers Cup, I slowly moved away from drinking espresso to solely focus on filter coffee. I traded my La Marzocco GS3 for an Ikawa Pro and some additional pour-over gears and I started brewing filter every morning before leaving home.
A lot of my friends keep telling me that they never have time to brew coffee at home in the morning and that they always get caught into rushing to go to work. Somehow I found a little ridiculous considering that making a filter coffee takes 5 to 10 minutes from dosing to cleaning the gears – who doesn’t have that kind of time in the morning?
That made me reflect on myself and my own routine. For the past year I became irregular with my sports practice and daily meditations, I wasn’t putting the same amount of passion into cooking which I used to and I struggled to find time to spend with my friends. On top of this, I was working 70 to 80 hours a week but was that really a valid reason? My average phone screen time was 130 minutes a day, I was spending way too much time on social media. The preparation is having me reflect on what truly matters to me and it is making me stop trying to find excuses for not doing things that I wanted to do.
What about you? What keeps you from doing the thing that really matters to you?
